Dear Friends,
The Asian American Association of New Mexico (AAANM) and Kalakriti Dance Company are proud to be presenting Kaladarpanam: An Offering of Art to the Albuquerque community on July 18, 2009. AAANM is a non-profit organization that works to promote and preserve the diverse cultural customs and heritage of the Asian communities in NM, contribute to the better social well-being of the Asian communities in NM, and promote and support the economic progress of the Asian communities in NM.
In support of its mission objective to promote and preserve the cultural customs and heritage of the Asian communities in NM, the AAANM identified a goal of establishing an Asian American Cultural Center in the International District. The Asian American communities as well as the local neighborhood communities in and around the International District strongly support such a physical facility and look forward to using these unique facilities on a daily basis for recreation, education, training, performing arts, and health.
Kala Darpanam: An Offering of Art, is the first major fund raiser event in support of the Asian American Cultural Center. The event is scheduled for July 18, 2009 at the Rodey Theater (UNM), from 6-8pm. “Kala Darpanam” is a spectacular presentation of Bharatanatyam, one of the most celebrated traditional dance forms from India that has its roots going back to more than 2500 years. It is based on the ancient treatise of dance “Natya Shastra”: pure dance, facial expressions and a presentation of combined pure dance and facial expressions. The acclaimed artists, Lonika Majithia and Anita Rao, both of the Kalakriti Dance Company, will astound you with their mesmerizing and energetic presentation of Bharatanatyam dances. Please find the event flyer attached to this email. We sincerely hope you can attend the event and show your support for the Asian American Cultural Center. If you have any questions please contact either Bobbi Nobles or Lonika Majithia.
Sincerely,
Bobbi Nobles AAANM Secretary 505-934-4772,

A Sanskrit term śloka (श्लोक; also spelt shloka and sloka) specifically denotes a metered and often rhymed poetic verse or phrase. Shloka is the chief metre used in the Epics.[1]It also connotes and has come to mean a proverb and a form of prayer throughout Indian religions having arisen in the Vedas. Shloka has become equated with Hindu prayer and is often comparable to a proverb and hymn of praise to be sung or chanted in liturgy. Shloka are generally composed in a specified meter, typically part of stotras. ( More from Wikipedia )
